San Diego - Day 3

Monday was President’s Day, so we decided the main attraction in San Diego – the Zoo – might be too crowded.  So, drove around and checked out the water front and got information to plan other events for the week.

We started out with breakfast at Breakfast Republic. It is located in Liberty Station - an old Navy Training facility that has been turned to a park, stores, and restaurants. Breakfast was very good! But we got there just before it opened and it isjust past the end of the runway of the San Diego airport.  Planes start flying out of there at 6:30 and they take off about every 90 seconds or so.

Downtown, we walked along the waterfront and gathered information.

We walked up to the train station and peeked inside.

Then for lunch we found a place called the Taproom Beer Company.

We ended up in Balboa park at the San Diego Model Train Museum. They had both O gauge (Bob’s favorite) and HO gauge layouts. The HO layout model the Tehachapi Loop, a loop built in 1874 to allow the trains to climb up the Tehachapi Pass.

We also walked around some art shops in Balboa park, but it was late in the afternoon and most were closed.
