The Eyes of Texas are Upon You

We left New Orleans and headed west.  We crossed the Mississippi in the rain and then drove across the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge in the rain.  We stopped for lunch just short of the state line.  Then we drove into Texas to The Eyes of Texas are Upon You followed by Miles and Miles of Texas.  The first mile marker in Texas  on I-10 is around 849.

We drove to Winnie, TX and then south to High Island.  We only passed thru there, but High Island is the point that gets really pounded by hurricanes because it is unprotected by any sea wall or anything.  Then it was down the Boliver Peninsula and across the Boliver Ferry.

This is the other ferry, not the one we were on.

That took us into Galveston where we checked in, ate dinner, drove down to the other end of the island and took a walk along the sea wall.

The waves were up and the breeze was nice.  But most of all it was nice to see the sun.
