Houston

The first day in Houston wasn't too exciting.    Bob drove around to show the girls his old apartments and where he worked and we had lunch at Fred's Italian Corner!

The second day started with breakfast - Texas style!

Debbie took Bob up to Sharpstown Golf Course so he could play with his friend Tommy.  Bob used to live on the 16th hole at Sharpstown when he lived in Houston.  Tommy lamented to the starter about having to play with a Steelers fan.  Then the starter added a third person to our group.  After the starter added him to our group, he yelled, "He's a Saints fan!".  Ironically, though, he was from Toledo, Ohio!. The morning rain thinned out and the front nine was cloudy and cool.  The sun came out around #12 and it felt more like Houston golf.  However, the course was very wet from all the rain Houston had this week - no roll.

Number 16 - Bob and Tommy

Meanwhile, the girls went to the Galleria - a fancy mall in Houston - and Maria got a dress, Debbie some shirts and Sarah got a belt - an one orange belt!.

We all got back to the hotel and relaxed for a while.  Trying to think of what to do, the only thing Bob
could come up with was a baseball game.  The Astros were playing the WhiteSox and there is a minor league team that plays in Sugar Land - the Skeeters (as in mosquito).  We talked about it and decided to go see the Skeeters.  They were fifteen minutes from the hotel and much less expensive.

It was a gorgeous night at this minor league ballpark. The was a nice breeze and it wasn't too hot and humid.  The Skeeters ball park was interesting.  Beyond the outfield they had all kind of stuff for kids: Bounce house, a playground and even a pool!   The video board was the shape of Texas and they had a manual scoreboard in left field like Fenway Park!  The Skeeters beat the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs  7-1!  7 runs in one game means Free Ice Cream at DQ!

They play in the Atlantic Baseball league which is an independent league.  None of the teams are affiliated with major league clubs.  However, if players are pull up from this league they usually then play in double or triple A.
